⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredibly heartfelt and heart wrenching, this book inspires and uplifts with its message of love, compassion, forgiveness and hope. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I particularly appreciated the courageousness of Fine's use of an autistic character early on. Peggy captures your heart as she struggles to protect her vulnerable inner self from life's harsh realities.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As a person who has very little experience with the Jewish faith and its customs I found the threads involving that to be very interesting. It's top notch YA speculative fiction and a nice addition to the sf diversity collection.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I believe that one of his strongest attributes is the fact that he can shape shift through his characters, male, or female, and make them believable. They each have their own personalities and viewership of the world.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Andrew Fine brings together a unique blend of characters who weave us right into a plot with a conflict we can all relate to and a resolution we can all appreciate.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The first Alouette book is full of profound Talmudic concepts which I believe are part of the Jewish collective unconscious. The science is as captivating as a Feynman lecture.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Andrew Jonathan Fine's story reminded me a little of the stories written by RAHeinlein in his youth series featuring the Stone family and others with the intertwined ethics and morals with the story line.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Each character is special and their personalities are complete and believable. Each one has their moment under the spotlight. I loved the fact that the author presented such diverse group of people.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Firmly grounded in traditional science fiction, it is also part thriller, part family saga, and part romance novel. Yet Fine blends these genres so deftly that, rather than creating dissonance or awkwardness, they support and enrich each other, forming a unified whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ While the Sci-Fi plot figures heavily in the book, it's the relationships between the four main characters that turn this novel into a serviceable read. Kudos to Mr. Fine for creating an autistic character (Margaret) that's not a caricature.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mr. Fine fleshed out many wonderful characters that each had their own distinct role to play within the adventure. A great writer reveals their love of their work within the pages they allow us to read and I am hugely impressed with the great depth in which different cultures, races, religions, and even species were portrayed within this book.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Each character was telling his/her story which I like. It made me feel like Peggy, Martin, and the others were telling ME the story. Lately the stories I have read are just from one point of view so this was a nice change for me and kept me moving to the next page. It’s not a slow paced story, so there is no getting bored with it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I liked the twist and turns in this book. All the action kept it very interesting. The story is very original and engaging!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ It is a wonderful little package that balances adventure, religion, romance and life’s discoveries with a Science Fiction edge. The combination of elements is engaging, as it weaves a glimpse of Margaret’s life through the perspective of Autism. Margaret’s character delighted me with a look at her challenges and true successes.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love speculative fiction, but I expect the science in my sci fi to make sense. It did. And the characters were different. They were believable. Extraordinarily gifted youth, but believable. They were complex. The plot had layers and layers. And I learned things about a culture not my own. The characters and story were clearly crafted with great care.
