The Midnight

Jan 10, 2025

In the night,
Dark, dismal, dreary,
They come to me,
Like restless ghosts to a scarred child—
They mock and smirk—
Some even strike—

My heart trembles with fear,
I draw the blinds, shut the door,
Turn off the lights,
Pull the duvet tight—

The pounding thud—
Seeking solace,
I cling to my heart—

In this rare moment, we find peace,

With one another.

The bygones flicker through—'

Departures sting—
Goodbyes, what’s and if’s—

The taste is bitter,
Like the sea’s relentless salt—
They hold no mercy—
The holocaust of my agony,
The raging thoughts have scattered,
Debris of memories—

The uneasy quiet,
After devastation—
Where the town is charred and silent,
Ashes, mortal remains,
And suffocating silence reigns—
