Introducing: Homecoming UK - October Issue

Oct 19, 2023

Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?

We're on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, all with the HomecomingUK tag. We're on all music streaming platforms, again as Homecoming UK. We're actually just called Homecoming, but there's about 5 others that came up when we started making socials!

We're currently finishing off the last of our 2023 dates, and about to head in the studio to record our second EP. There's even going to be guest vocals from another local act!

Tell us a bit about your influences.

Most of our influences stem from early 2000s pop punk and emo.

Michaels are pretty much blink 182, blink 182 and sometimes blink 182. Anything that Tom DeLonge has dipped toes in.

Paul's influences are probably the farthest from pop-punk as you could have - Jack White, Jimi Hendrix, Slipknot and Muse.

Chelsea has an eclectic mix of influences varying from Green Day, The Who, Paramore, Carole Kaye and Arctic Monkeys.

Matty has a lot of influences!

Predominantly blink 182 and Green day are his biggest pop punk influences but then Eminem, Buddy Rich and Jamiroquai got him playing other genres.

How did you start?

Originally we started with a different line up and intended to be a pop punk cover band of Disney and musicals, back in 2017. We went through 2 drummers 3 guitarists, and 2 bassist's before landing with the line up we have now. Disney remain the only thing we cover (except for Shakin Stevens at Christmas) and we have really grown out own originals catalogue.

What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?

Travel costs, rehearsal costs, and recording costs I'd say.

And the loss of loads of grassroots venues. They're becoming far fewer and in-between than before.

The support network between bands (especially following bands being inactive for nearly 2 years) has really improved and is far more helpful and less competitive than when I was growing up.

What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to new artists?

Go to other local gigs. Support your local scene. If you can't be bothered to support other local music, why should anyone come and support you. It's a great way to meet new bands and friends, meet promoters, the load!

We've made so many friends the last 18 months by supporting other bands.

That's your best networking

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

Our main goals are just to keep a constant stream of regular gigs, maybe get on a few festivals, and keep making friends!

5 years time probably a similar situation but with more music released and more festivals under our belt! (Slam dunk and Rebellion, nudge nudge)

Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.

We're heading into the studio in November to record with Liam Chapman (previously recorded Save our Ships and Portside UK), to record a 5 track EP.

It follows the style of our first EP but with some more emotionally relevant lyrics, and some really good instrumentals!

We're really excited to go into a proper studio instead of my music room at the back of my house!
