Introducing: Heidi Vincent - June Issue

Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Vancouver BC. Currently, the black bears are out on the trails that I mountain bike on, it’s incredible. I love to keep busy with my family, writing & singing songs and a little bit of acting/voice overs.

Tell us a bit about your influences.

I grew up with quite an extensive array of music as I was raised by not only my Mom but both sets of my Grandparents. Everything from Cole Porter & Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis, Sinatra & Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams & The Everly & the Righteous Brothers. There was also Bill Monroe, Lead Belly, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Band, Blue Suede, Elvin Bishop, Queen, Bellamy Brothers, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, I would be here forever to name all my favourites and this is just what was in my household, never mind what I listened to in university to now.

How did you start?

I grew up singing around the house, Glenn Campbell’s "Rhinestone Cowboy" at the top of my lungs. I love singing, always will! It progressed to writing my own music and here I am. Hoping everyone is loving what I’m doing!

What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?

We have so many platforms that give direct contact to music lovers all over the world. Before this social media platform blitz we enjoy, the old school way to get heard was AR, Labels, Publishers, doing gigs with merch tables. The art of music business has changed so much.

What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to new artists?

One of the marketing tips I have is to learn how to use an editing app. Adding music, filters, stickers, polls, questions etc, is really great for interacting with people who like your songs. My advice, be yourselves! Be your own crazy, imperfect artist selves. I think we are all so tired of “slick.” We're humans & humans like “authenticity.” Our music is at everyone’s fingertips, which means potential for mutual participation! Find your own niche, something that is genuine & a sincere part of who you are and share it.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

I want to see my songs in movies. I write songs as if they were a movie in my head, they have characters, expositions, arcs and resolutions. In 5 years, strictly speaking of my entertainment career, I’d love to have completed a few more albums, a couple of commercials and maybe even a movie of the week as a supporting actor. And, of course, I’d like to doing some small, intimate but regular venues.

Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.

“What Love Can Do,” released May 1, 2024, is part 1 of a 2-part story about pacts, love & heartache. The follow-up single, part 2, is called "Criminal” and it’s a "playfully cinematic reverie, an ironically upbeat song of revenge murder” and will be released shortly.
