Introducing: Adder's Fork - October Issue

Oct 19, 2023

Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?

I'm currently residing in St. Pölten/Austria and working on a new Adder's Fork album in my little home studio.

Tell us a bit about your influences.

I've been creating music that crosses the border between 90s gothic and heavy metal and 80s goth/new wave music. I think these two styles merge really well, like - Paradise Lost and Sisters of Mercy + The Cure = it works!

How did you start?

I grew weary of writing extreme metal which I focused on in my early days. After taking a longer break from being an active musician around 2010, I realized: I was not finished yet and I had to do something quite different - thus Adder's Fork was born and a first demo was released in 2013.

What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?

Since I started writing and recording music in the mid-2000s, I can tell that it was definitely easier to get heard and recognized back then. Nowadays, the sheer amount of people in bands and musical projects online is so overwhelming, it's like yelling for attention within a huge crowd of salesmen. Of course it's cool to have a lot of music to choose from, but there's so much material that you'll never get to listen to because it never even manages to appear on your radar.

What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to new artists?

Take your time, be patient! Find like-minded individuals. Use social media to grow a following, whether you like it or not - join groups, online/offline - doesn't matter - and don't quit your day job!

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

I'm currently working on my second album and I really want it to be the strongest representation of Adder's Fork's music so far - the raw cuts sound really strong already, the album should be finished in the first half of 2024, along with a great music video for a promo-single! I can't tell what's gonna happen in the next 5 years, but it would be great to have a few more collaborations under my belt and of course more quality material released until then - and stay healthy, of course!

Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.

In the meantime, check out "A Gathering of Four", which is a 4-way-split album I've been part of in early 2023. Four Austrian bands (Adder's Fork, Dea Artio, In Dornen & Winter's Breath) representing their individual dark metallic qualities, released by Running Wild records, a great label supporting Austrian bands!
