Mindset Newsletter #9 - You Can’t Make Money and Excuses at the Same Time

Nov 29, 2024

No matter what’s happening in the world, you have the power to shape your life. It’s time to leave excuses behind with the “old you.”

At one point in my life, I was in so much pain that I was desperate to escape it. Instead of embracing the necessary changes, however, I found myself relying on excuses to avoid further discomfort. I used these excuses to shield myself from feeling like an even bigger failure.

Even after a successful launch, these excuses lingered and cost me significant earnings over the next six months. I had a repertoire of every excuse imaginable, and I’ve heard many of the same from my coaching students as well.

It’s often easier to come up with excuses than to confront challenges head-on and get things done.

What’s Your Excuse?:

  • “I can’t give up my steady paycheck.”

  • “Invest? You want me to lose all my money, don’t you?”

  • “I don’t have any money to invest.”

  • “I tried that before. It won’t work.”

  • “I’m not smart enough.”

  • “My husband wouldn’t support it.”

  • “My wife wouldn’t understand.”

  • “What will my friends think if I fail again?”

  • “I’m young. I still have time.”

  • “It’s too late for me.”

  • “I can’t do that.”

  • “I wasn’t born with a computer in my hands.”

  • “It’s easier for the younger generation.”

Now, I encourage you to read those excuses again. Notice something important: each excuse creates a mental roadblock that prevents you from taking action, often rooted in the fear of past pain.

These excuses also shift the blame onto others or circumstances, sparing us from feeling guilty about our inaction. When faced with a situation reminiscent of past failures, our minds instinctively search for ways to avoid repeating that pain.

We all dislike feeling pain—I completely understand that. But will we take risks, or will we let these thoughts hold us back from potential growth?

Remember: People only change when they’ve endured enough pain with their current situation. Only then do they declare, “Enough is enough!”

At that point, we start seeking new ways to think, feel, and act. We must stop allowing excuses to create roadblocks on our path to success and protect us from past pain.

To Your Success,
