When you first got started with learning web development, you must have gone through some tutorials and built a few projects from the long tutorial videos and many blog posts.
The best way to learn a new programming language or technology is to build projects.
So here is how I would tackle getting into the back-end if I were starting from scratch today.
1. Build a basic API as your first project
Summary: This project is meant to give you the first brush with concepts around SQL or even high-level patterns such as ORM. Remember though, try to keep the idea behind the API simple, at this stage, you don’t care about functionality, you care about concepts.

2. User Authentication System
Summary: This project will compass you into creating a login/signup system for users on a site. It comes in handy as most sites have an authentication layer embedded in them.

3. Book Rentals Application
Summary: You can build a book rental application that will allow a single user to perform the following actions.

4. 100 Favorite movies
Summary: In this project, you can implement is the website with the top 100 favorite movies. In this case, new people should register on your website (so you must implement registration) and then they can add their own films.

5. Backend for E-Commerce Application
Summary: This particular task is a mammoth task and can take you some time to implement. The goal of this task is to learn the essential parts of the backend of an e-commerce application.

6. Restaurant App
Summary: This project has the potential to teach you the scale of managing a restaurant along with the core database functionalities of creating, editing, and deleting information, you can extract extensive benefits from this project.

7. School Management System
Summary: Management system projects are a norm in the field of backend development. Despite their monotonous nature, they are still widely accepted due to the complete portrayal of implementations and work provided.

8. File Sharing App
Summary: In this project, you will build APIs for a file-sharing app, and how to upload a file along with the core database functionalities of creating, editing, and deleting information, you can extract extensive benefits from this project.

9. YouTube Clone
Summary: This clone will help you understand how you manage the uploading of the content of multiple types including text-based content that deals with the title, keywords, and description of your video’s page.

10. Booking Clone
Summary: This BookMyShow clone allows you to experiment with one of the trending frameworks, Django. It allows you to replicate features like a movie filter page, details of the movie, a list of theaters present in the cinema, and much more.
