Second trip of the season to Laund Hill Rugby Club in Huddersfield, this time to see Yorkshire Senior Women in action. This was my first and only opportunity to photograph the squad - they’ve been performing really well and now were playing in the semi-final of the Gill Burns County Championship. Prize for the winners would be a trip to Twickenham for the final next Saturday.
The home side went into attack right from the start, scoring several tries and completely overwhelming opponents East Midlands. This blend of experience and youth is clearly working well. Half-time came with Yorkshire well ahead and any doubts about the result were dashed away with further second half scores.
By the time the visitors crossed the line for their first try, a Yorkshire victory was assured. Well done to East Midlands for keeping going though. They scored a second try before the final whistle blew.
So it’s back to Twickenham for Yorkshire, their third appearance in as many years. A great achievement already. They’ll be looking for a third victory and, based on this performance, it will need a really good team to deny them.
I was at Twickenham for the first of what will be three, in 2024. Opponents then were Surrey, as they will be in the coming final. Good luck Yorkshire and I hope you enjoy the rest of my semi-final pictures.
