All was going well for Leeds Tykes in the club’s annual Headingley fixture against Sale FC. Scoring two tries and a penalty, they led 15-10 at half-time. However, there are good reasons why the visitors are riding high at the top of the league and in the second forty, they were fully revealed.
Not that Tykes performed badly during this time - they defended well for much of the time. It was just that somehow Sale had stemmed the home side’s attacking potency so they spent little time at all in the attacking half. Eventually theif defence was broken and Sale went over for two tries. So the points were more or less reversed. At the final whistle the sides were separated by the first half try below that spoilt the ‘game of two halves’ symmetry.
Not such a good afternoon for ickledot either as he was basically sitting at the wrong end. He’d needed scoring shots of both sides so concentrated on Sale in the first half, reasoning that Tykes are usually a second half side. Wrong! All shots of them scoring or celebrating are from the first half and therefore distant. Anyway, here are the pictures. See what you think.
This is ickledot’s final post of the year. Have a great Christmas everyone, and a fantastic 2023.
