Beckett Edge Out Met In Thriller

Beckett Edge Out Met In Thriller

Nov 23, 2023

A cold, dull November afternoon brightened by the prospect of Leeds Beckett men playing their first home fixture in over four weeks. As a consequence, the pitch looked to be in good condition despite much recent rain. Opponents on this Wednesday afternoon, the Met of the heading, were Cardiff Met University.

The theme of the afternoon was set from the opening phases, with the visitors being first to score after only a few minutes of play. Not too long after Beckett equalised with a try and took a lead with the conversion.

Exhilarating play from both sides had the lead swapping from one side to the other - Beckett’s pack seemed the stronger and Met’s backs at times appeared unstoppable. With single digit time left on the clock Beckett pushed over the try that seemed to have won the game. There was much celebration.

The score was 26 to 20. However, as Met were first to score, they were also, cruelly for them, last. A try down the left brought them to within a point of the hosts. All held our breath as the kick which would bring victory for the visitors - sailed wide of the posts. Cue more celebration for home players and supporters. It was a great game - thanks to all.
