First rugby league of 2026 took me to Crossflatts to see an almost top of the table encounter between Keighley Albion against Beverley. This was my second Albion match, the first one being and Mirfield Stags in 2017.
Having parked on the main road, I discovered that the way into Albion’s ground had changed. Back then I’d gone through the adjoining cricket club but now there was a separate entrance, which involved a short walk through a wood. A little confusing but I needn’t have worried as one of the players gave me directions. Very helpful!
I discovered later his name was Adam Gaunt. When I told him I was taking photographs he asked me to make sure I got some shots of him. I asked him if he was fast. Without hesitation he replied, “Yes!” This proved to be true as he ended up scoring a hat-trick of tries.
He wasn’t the only one. For practically the whole game it was one way traffic. The visitors did manage to score but proved completely unable to stem the flow of points at the other end. Final score was 70-6, a fantastic display by the whole side. Well done to all - thank you for the welcome and I hope you like the pictures!
