Hey Bimbos -
Before we even get into that little screenshot above there, first and foremost, I want to thank every person on here who has supported me by buying me a coffee. With your support, you have helped me raise nearly $1,000.00 of Bimbo Cash!!!! I cannot even put into words how it feels to have people believing in my vision and wanting to see the poddy take flight. So, THANK YOU.
Now, in way of an update, I have officially purchased flights back home and i'll be flying back to the states on March 18 2022. My main purpose of going home is purely for family. Without getting into the detail, I just need to go and this is the soonest I can get over there due to Covid things, level restrictions, cash, etc etc etc. I'll be taking a couple weeks off initially to really soak in that family time, and unplug from work. As way of an itinerary, (since you asked) i'll be flying first into LA and meeting my mom (which I am tearing up even typing this as I haven't seen her in so long) at the airport as she flies in literally 30 minutes after I touch down all the way from Germany! From here, we are heading to Disneyland for a few days because... we are both children at heart and NEED IT!! After LA, we'll be flying out to Seattle to spend about a week and a half with my grandpa, helping him out, spending some MUCH needed time, and visiting my Uncle and Grandma as well. From here, mom and I will be flying out to North Carolina, where I will spend the rest of my trip, to stay with my aunt. Thankfully, my job is allowing me to work remotely for the remainder of my trip and i'm extremely grateful for this. If I haven't bore you yet ... read on...
* I will be bringing ALL of my podcasting and video gear with me. I'll have full capability of recording audio and video, doing all post production work everywhere and anywhere, visit some of my absolute favourite restaurants (one specific burger joint in the place I grew up is really coming to mind here) and of course, having some great coffee and food. As mentioned before, i'll be taking you all along this journey with me by creating a weekly vlog which will be available on YouTube, and start hearing some epic hospo stories! As I have mentioned in my last episode (if you haven't listened to it yet, head over to Apple, Spotify, or iHeart Radio and tune in for more depth) up until this point, i've invited people I know personally onto the show. People I've worked with or have had some sort of connection with. This was a great space of time for me to learn all the ins and outs of podcasting, develop a workflow, and fully understand what it takes to create a full production on my own. Now, i'll be talking to absolute strangers ... people I have never met before ... and this will most likely start by me going to a restaurant or cafe, talking to a server, and straight up asking if they'd like to have a chat on their lunch break. "Oh don't worry, i've got the gear in my bag just here..." (doesn't sound sketch at all, does it?!) Ha!
I can't tell you how terrifying this is for me, but the fact that this is straight up one of the scariest things i've ever done (hello, introvert speaking here) yet i'm STILL so excited and feel this burning desire to get going, lose sleep, feel extremely uncomfortable, probably get rejected a few times and have a few funny looks..... to me that means I have found my purpose and am onto something here. Right?! Isn't that how it works?
I know what you're thinking, 'oh god, this is going to be a D, MAYBE C grade production and sound absolute trash'.... wrong. Over the past year, I've researched, i've accumulated, and I have now gone absolutely broke in the bank building my kit and learning as much as I possibly can through trial and error. In way of portable gear, I will be operating with a Zoom H6 which will allow the podcast to be super easy to record anywhere and everywhere (little upgrade/downgrade from my OG RodeCaster Pro). I've got some great wireless pocket mics as backups on order, 2 x Shure SM7Bs, a Rode Video Mic Pro + .. and i'm hoping to purchase one more mic (SM58) for a third guest option.
Im extremely proud of what i've accomplished in a little over a years time and this photo below sums it up. When I first started, I had a laptop, and a USB mic without an ounce of an idea on what I was doing. Now, I've formed a decent little kit and its got me reflective. I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in focusing on where we're going and how far we still have to go, that we easily forget where we started and how far we've come. pats self on back
Here's a quick snap of (most) my gear. There's a few things not pictured here - some boom arms, mic stands, chords, cables, empty coffee cups, the Deity Pocket Mic I just bought, etc... but this is the bulk of it. When I head back home, I won't be taking the big bertha Rode Caster pro, but rather my little Zoom H6 which i'm absolutely in love with.
I'm super excited to get back to our regular programming, and so proud of how far this has come. Now, all that's left to do, is get out there and start recording.
Couple of new little things i'm working on now -
New theme music (same dreamy jukebox vibe, but lets get some better quality eh)
Third mic for a group recording capability (Shure SM58) maybe I need a fourth to be safe?!
Blog - I have a few historic posts of absolute word vomit up on the website, but i'd like to be more active in this space once i'm out there doing the damn thing.
Merch - this has been a long time coming, and if i'm honest, money has been my biggest setback. But i'd like to get some Hospo Bimbo merch rockin' and rollin' by 2022. Diner mugs anyone?
