My top three AI tools for content creation

Aug 29, 2024

Whether you're a freelance writer or you're creating content as a business owner, it can seem quite a large undertaking to keep on top of the volume of content you need to produce in order to create regular opportunities for engagement with your target audience. Here are three of the AI tools I like to use as a freelance content writer to support content creation and boost efficiency.

Frase.io

Frase.io is a brilliant SEO content optimisation tool, and really versatile. A few of its features include:

  • Using target keywords to generate headings for your articles or blog posts

  • Content research and optimisation

  • Content brief generation

  • SEO content optimisation

Its AI writing assistant will even generate article copy for you based on prompts, although personally, I don't like to use this feature. Instead, I prefer to use a pre-written article and use the SEO content optimisation feature to check how well it's addressing the right search terms.

I've also used it in the past when writing my own portfolio and web copy to bring up pages of competitors offering similar services. This has helped me see which keywords they've focused on and how they've built them into their webpages.

Notion

A lot of the work I do involves condensing complex long-form content into concise short-form copy, and I haven't found a better AI tool for this than Notion. For example, when I repurpose marketing email copy for social media ads for one of my clients, I'll use Notion to help me create something as a starting point to build on. You do have to play around with the prompts a bit, as you do with any generative AI tool.

I've also used it for researching my ideal clients, generating prompts for client outreach scripts and also generating content ideas to feed into content strategies. But if you do use any AI tool for research, I'd exercise caution. You still need to do your due diligence, as these tools are not 100% accurate.

Claude.ai

While Notion is my favourite for condensing long-form copy into short-form content, Claude.ai is the best tool I've found for doing the opposite. I've used this tool when I've had the 'bare bones' of a long-form piece that needs to convey complex ideas, but want to turn it into something more fully formed. It can be used for a range of purposes, but in my line of work it's particularly helpful for writing and editing draft articles and communications.

Final notes

A word of caution when using any of these tools: remember that when creating any piece of work with the help of AI, you should always leave out specific details about companies and individuals to protect privacy and confidentiality of clients and avoid potential legal issues. Remember that these tools should never take over from you - only you can bring your unique voice and expertise. But used in the right way, they are a HUGE help and can really streamline the process of content creation.
