A rich and decadent chocolate cake made with sourdough starter for added depth of flavor and moistness.

ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup hot coffee or water

instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, sourdough starter, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.

  5. Stir in the hot coffee or water until the batter is smooth and evenly combined.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
