What if the parts of you that hurt aren't asking to be fixed, but befriended?
Next week, I’m offering Apapacharnos: Befriending What Hurts, a two-hour virtual workshop exploring what it means to meet ourselves with tenderness when something hurts.
Apapacharnos comes from apapachar, a word rooted in Nahuatl and carried into Spanish, expressing a soul-deep embrace. For me, it offers a beautiful way of understanding how we can care for ourselves: with tenderness, presence, and a willingness to stay in relationship with what is here.
Because what hurts doesn't only live in our emotions.
It can move through the interconnected rivers of spirit, mind, emotion, and body. It can appear as grief, fear, anger, shame, disappointment, an old story we continue carrying, or a sensation in the body we haven't quite known how to listen to.
During our time together, we'll draw from compassionate inquiry, embodied awareness, and Mexica wisdom to notice what is asking for our care. Through reflection and guided practices, we'll explore how befriending what hurts can help us cultivate a more tender relationship with ourselves.
Sometimes what hurts isn't asking to disappear.
It's asking to be held differently.
