Thank you all so much for the help you gave me last year for my trip to the medicine programme at Cambridge University. Your acts of generosity made all the difference for me and I had an incredible and super beneficial experience over in England.
I'm up to some more adventures this year. In January, I was accepted into the London International Youth Science Forum which will take place on the 26th July - 9th August 2023. This programme involves around 500 students from across the globe attending specialist lectures from leading scientists in their fields, day visits to the best UK university departments such as in Cambridge & Oxford, laboratories and research centres, and an active social programme with cultural showcases and sporting events.
The total amount I needed to take my place at LIYSF was $10,653, which covers travel insurance, airfares from Invercargill to London return, for myself only flying Air New Zealand and Emirates as well as the programme itself, the cost of which includes all accommodation and meals for its duration.
Thanks to my applications to various organizations (along with rejections) the total amount gifted from very kind and generous people and organizations such as the ILT and Lions Clubs have agreed to support me in taking the place I have been given at this event, to help me use this opportunity to enhance my skills, expand my knowledge and personal development by travelling across the world solo. As a result, I have been successful in raising $7063 of the total cost.
I now have only $3500 to raise. I have been committed to selling chocolates at school to fundraise and am progressing really well with those and will continue with these efforts until I leave on the 21st of July.
My scenario is very similar to last year, so once more I am opening myself up to the opportunities that this page provides and the possible generosity of you all. It's crazy to be invited to attend these events that are so often reserved for the elite. With more time, my family and I could potentially cover these costs, but in such a short time frame, it's very hard. Every little donation or supportive comment had such a positive impact on me last year, all of which I remain incredibly grateful for.
