This rage is justified.

This rage is justified.

Aug 13, 2022

I found myself saying "this rage is justified" yesterday and it's not a thing I say often. It's also not a thing I allow myself to say easily. I've seen far too many people rationalize their worst abuses of others by telling themselves that their actions were justified. I think it's wise to be cautious when examining your feelings and motivations before labeling them as right, good, or justified.

The disabled community is barred from participation in society and penalized for daring to have rich fulfilling lives. As a matter of policy, the convenience of others and commerce is prioritized above our very survival. This is codified injustice. My rage is justified.

My entire life I've been given the advice to not act out of anger and many take that to mean you should never take an action if your motivation is anger. I believe that the true meaning is not to react rashly in the moment you experience anger. I think you should examine your anger and motivations and if they are justified then you should be spurred into action.

Rage at injustice can and should be a galvanizing force. Just make a plan before you start reacting.

What am I going to do with this anger? I am not sure yet what my most effective actions could be to address the injustices that anger me. For now, I am going to keep doing what I am doing while I mull it over.

Support and inspiration have come to me from some unexpected sources while I've been contemplating this issue. I think figuring out what's next and what I can pull off/make stick is going to be my next big adventure in life. Well, that and getting well enough to wash my hair every day.
