Another Russian missile hit Kharkiv toda ...

Another Russian missile hit Kharkiv today; we were there for the aftermath

Mar 20, 2024

Hi folks,

Yana's here, Gwara's English Editor — and it's March 20, a day when Russians attacked Kharkiv with a missile again: a civilian enterprise in the city center caught fire that spread throughout 2,000 m2.

It’s been over four hours since the attack, and the rescuers are still putting out the fire and looking for people under the rubble. Russia killed at least four people and injured at least seven.

Our journalists Denys Glushko and Ivan Samoilov were at the hit site just half an hour after the attack: here is Denys’ report with Ivan’s photos

I haven't thought about the risks of a 'double tap' since May 2022, but I couldn't get it out of my mind today. Just several days ago, Russians attacked Odesa in this manner, killing at least 17 people and injuring over 70, including first responders and volunteers who came to help after the first strike. Believe it or not, until that moment, I forgot Russians can do this.

Remembering brought back the fear, and today, as I scrolled through the photos and videos my colleagues were taking at the hit site, I thought about that fear. I thought about how it changed during two years of full-scale war. How now, as I'm working on what I believe is useful and valuable (showing what Russians do in Ukraine in the shadows of this war), the fear is different from back when I wasn't.

All of that is to say: thank you for supporting our work through all the dangers, risks, and ever-changing fears. The fear is inevitable, I think, but the company makes it easier to get through it.

Kindly,

Yana
