Although the L.O.C.U.S.T. (League of Citizens United for Sustainable Terra) group started as an ecological protection group to protest the unsafe mining practices of Abaddon Inc., they quickly became militaristic in their behavior. Its members reeked discipline and operated with an almost robotic allegiance that was nothing short of cult-like. Overwhelming public support for the efficient, yet caustic militia forced government forces to embrace the organization or see its own electoral defeat. L.O.C.U.S.T. was quietly folded into its own police force. Overnight, streets once rampant with crime and litter turned clean albeit with a smokescreen of fear. Citizens at once enamored with the group's deep commitment to earth protection now face a new problem: a police force with great disdain for humans and their various activities. No matter how benign the crime, L.O.C.U.S.T. responded with quick and decisive punishment.

Joshua Tree National Park is one of my favorite of our nation's great park systems. I have thousands of pictures of the strange alien-like trees. I used a reference photo from a trip to the desert in 2019. I haven't been back since the pandemic. Now, I fear for its safety as park employees are laid off in droves and regulations peal back. Capitalism cares not for the beauty and ecological importance of our lands.
