Ghostly Ships Over Gothic City

Caspar Moreau is an Oneiric Proto-Surrealist and Dream Chronicler, known for his distinctive fusion of Oneiric Proto-Surrealism (Alchemical Dreamscape)and Symbolist Allegory of the Abyss. His paintings transform familiar objects and nocturnal landscapes into impossible dream visions, where ordinary reality appears to obey unfamiliar laws.

In Ghostly Ships Over Gothic City, antique glass bottles drift above a vast Gothic city beneath a luminous nocturnal sky. Within some of the vessels, miniature sailing ships appear suspended in liquid, while other bottles release translucent vapours that gradually take the form of spectral ships sailing through the air.

A large tilted bottle pours a luminous stream across the city, its flowing vapour descending between Gothic towers and transforming into a procession of ghostly vessels above the rooftops. The impossible scene remains strangely serene, poetic and harmonious, turning the familiar architecture of the city into a dreamlike maritime landscape.

The work is painted in richly layered oil glazes, combining subdued antique earth tones with luminous emerald, spectral turquoise, twilight lavender, smalt blue and restrained phosphor yellow. The result is an atmospheric nocturnal vision in which antique glass, Gothic architecture, vapour and sailing vessels merge into a single continuous dream.
