I've always been fascinated by the connection between prehistoric burial mounds and faerie lore. This new research lines up nicely with folklore traditions of faeries (and later, fantasy elves) as a 'dying' people, who 'went to the west' (a traditional term for the afterlife).
Maybe sometime I'll post a short essay about the other connections between the feys and the dead. It's quite fascinating to a folklore nerd like me.
