Duolingo collectible figurines for 3D printing

Jul 24, 2025

If you're a language aficionado this collection is definitively for you !

I started this project to practice my 3D skills as an intermediate designer. Doulingo characters seem to be simple but they are often presented as 2D graphics in the official Duolingo app and company's social media. My first inspiration came from an article that I read on theverge.com titled "How Duolingo designed the new characters for its Project World" .

I took 2D pictures and tried to give them the third dimension.

Creating each figurine needs three steps:

  • designing 3D model from 2D images

  • preparing every element to be printable on 3D printer

  • 3D printing and assembling

Believe me or not, Duo's "bat" shaped head required a lot tinkiering with 3D splines but it was worth the effort. Take a look at first four 3D printed figurines from the collection.

The second reason I decided to dive into this project is that I'm a great fan of Duolingo app because I own it a lot, for example:

  • achieving Spanish communicative level (tested while backpacking alone to Spain 😁🇪🇸)

  • training my perserverance and consistency

  • teaching me that "no matter if you do something or not, time goes by so it is better to use it to my own advantage" by doing little steps every day - that so, SO POWERFUL force in life 💪

I also infected my friends and family members with passion for languages from age 9 to 75 and I’ll give each of them a figurine as a gift when they reach their next milestone in learning.

Share this figurines with friends who also use Duolingo and keep learning together 🤗 ... and let me know which Duolingo character is your favourite. Mine is Eddy.
