Yesterday's arrest of María Oropeza, while very high profile, is far from an isolated case as Maduro's government has carried out a campaign of systematically arresting opposition politicians. Having already declared González and Machado as wanted, Venezuelan authorities expanded their criminal probes today to include those who published the opposition tally of approximately eighty percent of voting machines. González also received a summons to appear before the central election commission, a summons which he denied. He accurately pointed out that his presence there would do little to benefit the country, band that he would almost certainly be arrested were he to appear. He also expressed doubt about the legality of such an order, particularly coming from Maduro. For now, González and Machado remain in hiding.
