Russian troops have advanced further in Niu York; according to pro-Russian sources, around a third of the city is under Russian control. Ukrainian sources have conceded that they have lost ground. But so far, Russian gains are limited to the more outlying regions of Niu York, with the denser center remaining firmly under Ukrainian control for the time being. Even so, a defeat at Niu York could potentially force Ukraine to abandon positions in Toretsk, one of their most fortified points along the front. Russia's offensive against Niu York has taken the form of a long salient. It is in situations such as this where Ukraine's critical manpower shortages becomes quite evident, as they should hypothetically be able to punish Russia's lengthy and thin salient.

Today, the United States declared that F-16s are being transferred to Ukraine. With the exact method of transport up in the air, the timeline is murky. The planes may be disassembled, sent across the border when safe to do so, then reassembled. Alternatively, they may simply be flown across the border. Regardless, the planes will be operational in Ukraine soon, putting to rest an ordeal which took far, far longer than it should have. The Netherlands also announced a $300 million military aid package for Ukraine, including ammunition for F-16s. Zelenskyy also announced a military aid package from Canada worth $367 million USD. While the details were not published, Zelenskyy thanked Canada for their assistance with fighter jets, suggesting that the package may have something to do with F-16s.

After an agreement between Poland and Ukraine opened the door to the hypothetical situation in which Poland might shoot down Russian projectiles (this was never publicly codified), the United States expressed its disapproval. The concern was escalation with Russia, though the United States also affirmed that Poland has the autonomy to decide their defensive procedures. Poland then put out a statement announcing that their air defenses would not be used to help protect Ukrainian skies. That said, the United States and Ukraine are reportedly deep in talks to expand the targets and range within Russia that Ukraine can use American long range weaponry against.

From NATO, Ukraine also received an acknowledgement that their path towards NATO membership is "irreversible". NATO has previously promised that Ukraine could eventually join the alliance. This fundamentally isn't saying anything new, but is stronger language. In short, it's a political statement meant to show Ukrainian progress without actually advancing Ukraine's bid to join the defensive alliance, which will not happen until if and when the war has finished, at the absolute earliest.
