Russia has pushed west from Bohdanivka and are at the edges of Kalininka, the only settlement between Bohdanivka and the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal. Once Russian troops entered Kalininka, Ukrainian troops will be in an awkward position in eastern Chasiv Yar. While there are numerous crossing points for the canal, they are still geographically limiting and with Russian troops nearby, they can concentrate fire on these narrow routes.
Russian forces seized a chunk of fields west of Avdiivka, in the region north of Netailove. This provides Russia with the opportunity to lash out at Umanske and Yasnobrodivka, or to try to flank Netailove. Both are likely to happen within the coming weeks as Russia's offensive shows few signs of slowing and as aid from the west remains anemic.
Ukraine carried out a rare strike on the city of Luhansk today, likely with Storm Shadow missiles. These types of attacks have grown more rare with time, as Ukrainian stockpiles have dwindled. Ukraine hit a vehicle repair plant in the city. Interestingly, it was one that Ukraine actually targeted before, around a year ago.
The final reactor unit of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has shifted to a cold shutdown, reducing the risk of a tragic accident from taking place. The IAEA was welcomed the news, as a cold shutdown is something that they had long called for, presuming that Ukraine and Russia didn't reach some sort of agreement. Conversely, Putin has expressed his desire to see the power plant restarted. But for now, the situation is finally stable.
Ukraine won a promise from Germany to deliver an additional Patriot battery, along with some air defense missiles. This is a far cry from the 25 that Ukraine has requested, or the seven that they are hoping to get soon. But every little bit helps. It will almost assuredly go to protecting a Ukrainian city, Esther than being used offensively at the front. The idea to shift one along the front for offensive purposes is a long term idea regardless, as Ukraine does not have the manpower nor ammunition necessary to carry out an offensive at this point in time anyway.
