Ukrainian troops continue to be pushed back in Pervomaiske. Russian troops have pushed through the full northern half of the city, including the northwest corner. They are now at the metaphorical gates of Netailove; the battle for Pervomaiske will be wrapped up quite soon, and the full fledged battle for Netailove will commence.
Russian troops have pushed back into the edge of Krasnohorivka, a Ukrainian stronghold west of the city of Donetsk. This isn't the first time that Russia has entered the city, but each time, they have been repelled. Ukraine will probably manage to do the same this time around, though there is obviously no guarantee. Between the Avdiivka operation, the almost concluded Pervomaiske operation, and the latest push into Krasnohorivka, Russia is quite obviously trying to establish a buffer around the city of Donetsk. It has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian troops in the past. A few mile buffer won't protect the city entirely, but the wider the buffer, the fewer types of weapons Ukraine has that will be able to attack the city. As this happens, Russia will be able to turn one of the largest occupied cities under their control into a bona fide logistical hub, facilitating attacks all throughout the oblast.
Ukraine continues to lose ground around Chasiv Yar. Russian sources claim to have captured all of the village of Bohdanivka, northeast of Chasiv Yar. Ukrainians sources have acknowledged that Russian troops have advanced around the flanks of the village, but claim to still hold part of it. Separately, south of Chasiv Yar, Russian troops have pushed up to the canal. While the exact status of Bohdanivka is unclear, Russia has more or less created a pocket of Ukrainian troops in and around the eastern side of Chasiv Yar.
Another Russian vessel has caught fire in Kaliningrad oblast. The previous incident seemed to have been a friendly fire incident while Russia was training. But this time around, Ukraine claimed responsibility. The Serpukhov, a missile ship, was set on fire and claimed to have been disabled by Ukrainian intelligence. Partially bolstering their claim, Ukraine released footage showing the ship ablaze. Setting ships on fire in Kaliningrad opens up some awkward questions. The territory is completely surrounded by countries with EU and NATO membership. If Ukraine was responsible for the attack, it implies that these countries facilitated the attack, turned a blind eye to it, or were unaware that Ukrainian operatives are conducting missions through their territory.
Separately, another Russian vessel caught fire in the far eastern city of Vladivostok. The icebreaker Katerina Velikaya, which was built just a few years ago, caught on fire while undergoing repairs. This has long been a problem plaguing the Russian Navy, and Ukraine notably did not claim responsibility for this fire.
