Pervomaiske is increasingly closer to falling, and Russian troops have almost entirely secured the northern part of the city. They have also secured the region between Pervomaiske and Tonenke. Russian troops are beginning to move beyond Pervomaiske, and are starting to launch assaults against the edges of Netailove.
Russia has opened up a new avenue of assault north of Avdiivka. Pressing north of Krasnohorivka (not the Krasnohorivka under Ukrainian control west of Avdiivka), Russia advances rapidly right up to the edge of the village of Novokalynove. If Russia can secure Novokalynove and the adjacent village of Keramik, Russia will have opened up another angle of attack west towards the logistical hub at Ocheretyne.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, located in the city of Enerhodar, came under drone attack. The city and power plant have been occupied by Russian troops since early on in the war. Per the IAEA, there were three successful direct drone strikes on the structure housing the main reactor. Both sides denied that they were responsible for the attack, which has become something of a tradition with strikes carried out against the nuclear power plant.
After satellite imagery revealed Ukraine failed to destroy any planes at Morozovsk, Ukraine has now claimed to have damaged or destroyed seven warplanes at Yeysk airbase which came under a much smaller drone attack that same night. Of the planes alleged to have been damaged is a Beriev Be-200. A rather modern transport craft, it is a high value target. Only nineteen have been made, and a couple of them are owned by other countries. Two other unspecified transport aircraft are alleged to have been damaged or destroyed, as well as four Su-30 fighters.
Former president and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has announced his idea of a peace deal for Ukraine, which he states can be done in a day. His proposal would see Ukraine formally cede territory to Russia, in exchange for peace. This proposal and similar ones have seen pushback by Ukraine and others in the past for several reasons. For one, it rewards territorial expansionism by states, by granting formal recognition of territories. Ukraine also has expressed that Russia will simply resume attacking them in the future if they agree to any sort of ceasefire, including some sort of formal peace deal. In short, this proposal is highly unlikely to be accepted without ironclad security guarantees for Ukraine (such as an implausible immediate accession to NATO). Even then, it faces tall odds as a very large majority of Ukrainians believe that they can still reclaim some or all of the occupied territories by military means.
A couple of scandals have hit Ukraine's recruitment efforts. Syrskyi has ordered an investigation after there were media reports that Ukraine's SBU used recruitment officers to pressure a journalist who was investigating corruption within the SBU. In another scandal, the Odesa enlistment office has launched an investigation after a report of men in uniform detaining a formurreen year old. The child was released after seeing his documentation verifying his age.
Russia has lost another oil refinery, but this time, Ukraine had nothing to do with it. Orsk refinery has been forced to halt operations due to seasonal flooding in the area causing a dam to collapse. Flooding is expected to intensify for a few more days, so the refinery will remain offline for some time.
