Hamas has reportedly made a significant concession with their latest peace proposal, dropping the up front request that Israel commit to a permanent ceasefire. Instead, they are looking forward to a deal in which Israel agrees to an initial ceasefire, and agrees to a more permanent ceasefire after the first phases have been completed. Tensions have cooled mildly as negotiations are well underway, but that will only last as long as credible negotiations do; or until Israel escalates.
Israel also bombed a UN-ran school in Gaza today. Reportedly, seventeen people were killed and dozens were wounded. Israeli strikes such as this on UN and aid facilities are the primary reason why humanitarian aid to Gaza remains mostly suspended.
