The United States launched a targeted drone strike in Baghdad, killing two leaders of Kata'ib Hezbollah, the group widely presumed to have been behind the drone attack on the American base in Rukban, Jordan. Kata'ib Hezbollah had after the United States moved heavy assets into the region temporarily sworn off attacks against the United States, though their allies did not. In response to the assassination, several militias declared that they would respond against the United States. Overall, this puts Iraq into a very difficult situation; the American presence isn't particularly popular, but the government views it as an important counterweight to Iran, and the Kurdistan Regional Government is extremely supportive of the American presence. These militias skirmishing with the United States are, on paper, part of the federal Iraqi military.
More possible peace proposals between Israel and Hamas have come out. While the United States has expressed that there are multiple non-starters in the proposals made by Hamas, they expressed tepid optimism that this could be the beginnings on a template for an actual deal. Even as the United States is gently nudging Israel to think over the proposals as a starting point, Netanyahu rejected them and claimed that complete victory is in reach for Israel within a few months.
