Using Python for automating ArcGIS workflows offers a flexible way to make your GIS more efficient. I remember spending, 120 hour between myself and a colleague, to manually process data. This process was required several times a year and we have exactly one week, each time, to complete the task at hand. Enter Python and ArcPy. The workflow was automated from start to end and whittled down from 120 hours to just 3! I was instantly hooked.

When I look back on older coding attempts with ArcPy, the ArcGIS API for Python, and with Python in general, I often think "what gobshite wrote this code", that gobshite was me! I have learned a lot in the past 12 years using Python for ArcGIS and my aim is to pass that knowledge on to you.

A professor once told me, this was 19 years ago, that "GIS is slow". This always stuck with me. Even today, GIS is still slow if you are manually crunching through everything. Automating with Python opens up a world of efficiency and also aids with those salary negotiations.

A little code goes a long way! When it comes to geospatial task with Python, the very basics of Python is all you need to start doing wonderful things.
