Bizarre Effects & Creativity

Feb 22, 2021

When I first started out using old film lenses on my digital camera, somebody suggested I adapt an old Soviet Helios 44-2 by reversing the front element 😍

It's actually a fairly easy modification (depending on the model you use) ... it gives some interesting results!

If you'd like to give it a go, either message me, or just Google how it's done!

There's a bit of a learning curve to getting interesting results, as the lens now will no longer focus sharply, and you need to get used to working out how to get the weirdest images!

Shooting with the aperture wide open gives the funkiest results, but you give up any detail, and you'll also find that highlights give the most interesting effects. Light reflecting from shiny leaves, or from pools of water are always a good bet to try out!

It's kind of a 'one trick pony' but it can liven up an otherwise dull wander, even if it just reminds you that you're supposed to be having fun 😍

I've found that it's eerie, fairy tale like effect gives me ideas for other images (one's with a little less craziness) 😍
