Say Cheese!

Jan 25, 2022

Hi Team! I hope you're all keeping well. January sure is blue, huh? I've got some great magazine articles lined up for this year, and they need photography. Up until now, I've been getting by with my phone photos, which are ok for my online posts, but don't quite cut the mustard of magazine quality. Distilleries have been wonderfully gracious so far, sending me their own to use, and stock images are ok...but it's not quite the same as doing your own photography.

I'll let you into a little secret, I studied photography in my teens. I loved it. And I always had a camera on my person to snatch those miraculous opportunities that appear and vanish so suddenly. However, as mobile phones grew more advanced and everyone had a camera on their phone they became all snap-happy. As a result, I became quite over conscious of taking photos and stopped. Always the difficult one.

I've recently realised that my blog can be anything I want it to be. I love writing, and I love gin, so that's how it started. As time has progressed I've learned to love other spirits and now I write about them too. I love to travel and my blog has presented me with those opportunities through judging. I love cooking and have recently set up a kitchen section where I can share recipes of boozy food I'm making. And, now I can incorporate my love of photography. So, I brought myself a DSLR camera to take magazine spec photos, and take better photos for my blog. And, once I've got a few good distillery or drinks related shots under my belt, I may well look at setting up a shop for people to buy prints.

It's funny really. I've always struggled with focusing on the 'one' thing. I get enjoyment out of so many things, that I dilly dally between them and tend not to get anywhere. I honestly could never have suspected that I could fit so many of these things into my work, and for this, I am forever grateful.

Here's to doing what you love :)
