Today's featured poem is Conversations with the Departed, by Mohammed Moussa.

You should have rebelled
against all this tyranny.
You should have guided
the sea of this grief
on how to flood.
You should not have
remained silent
in the face of all this
screaming.
You should have borrowed
a dead tree's tongue to
reawaken a sorrow
you are fluent in.
You should not have
been born from a wound.
You should not have fed dry bread
to the hungry sky of your hope,
nor stolen the songs from your land
to converse with the walking dead,
like a child who forgot her birth
in her dead mother’s womb.
You should have prayed
your whole life for a death like this.
