At its heart GameChanger is a 2hr session that brings people together through gaming, we run at four venues across Somerset UK,Taunton Library,Bridgwater at the “Engine Room” , Yeovil Library and Glastonbury library.
Since launching GameChanger in June 2022, we’ve never charged anyone to attend. We believe that no one should be excluded from friendship, fun or community because they can’t afford it.
Over the last four years, more than 15,000 visits have been made to our free weekly gaming sessions by adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, neurodiverse adults and those experiencing mental health challenges. What began as a way to reconnect people after the isolation of the pandemic has grown into a thriving community where people come to laugh, play, chat and, most importantly, belong.
People often think GameChanger is about video games. It isn’t.
Gaming is simply the spark that brings people together. The real magic happens between the games – the conversations, the encouragement, the shared achievements, the confidence that grows week after week and the friendships that continue long after the consoles have been switched off.
We’ve seen people who once struggled to leave home become confident volunteers welcoming newcomers. We’ve watched friendships develop into support networks, and even seen people meet their life partners through the community they’ve found at GameChanger. Every week we’re reminded that human connection changes lives.
This is what drives us.
We believe everyone deserves somewhere they can walk through the door knowing they’ll be welcomed exactly as they are. A place where differences are celebrated, where strengths are recognised, and where people discover they aren’t alone.
