This is Betsy... my friend named her so... Betsy has decided that something in the house is needed for her nest. She has been tapping on the window, trying over and over to get in. Two days now.. .. .. pretty much non-stop.
Betsy is even becoming less afraid of our movements on this side of the glass, the clear obstacle to her desire. Even though she has not - and will not - be able to get where she wants to be, she continues to fly at the window and sit on the ledge and peck - peck - peck. And while her determination is admirable, she is wasting precious time trying to do something she was never meant to do.
How many times we are little Betsies... wanting, working toward, wasting time on something that is never meant to be. We see something that looks great; a mate, a ministry, a career, a ___; and boom, we are running hard after it. Our desire is for something that looks good and appears as if it is in reach. Then we realize something is always stopping us from getting it - getting there. What in the world?
Did we stop to ask God what He wanted us to want? Did we check in with Him before we set our focus or simply ask Him to bless our efforts in something He never intended for us to begin with? Even good things can distract us and keep us from God's best things. Narrow paths and all that.
So next time we see something we think would make our life niche better, we need to check in to be sure it is something God is aiming us toward, or something we just think would be a nice addition. Be bad to find ourselves coming up against a blocking God, over and over, because he has something better in mind.. Don't be a Betsy... (cute as she is)
