What Next?

Aug 22, 2023

Most of you reading this know that I lost my job earlier this month. It was a hard blow, landing on top of other difficulties. I had been laid off in December, and struggled in the aftermath of that to figure out how I would make a living in an expensive city (and expensive times generally).

Getting my last job in March felt like refuge, until it quickly became another trial. When I was fired in early August, I felt relief to be free from a difficult situation that was not going to change. My current job search is moving along and feels better than the last one.

But in the meantime (and onward) what next? The main thing is to finish what I've started. One of my biggest pitfalls has been failing to do this. I'm back to writing music, I'm studying, and I'm believing in myself.

Here's a glimpse of something I'm working on:

This was one of the last things I was working on before my teacher went on sabbatical. I haven't written in months because I've just been overwhelmed. But yesterday, I finally got back to it. Before I wrote any notes I wrote this poem (btw, the poem is an aide in my composing process and not meant to be a top tier poem):

soaring like an eagle
the meditation
and then
the rain
crying like an eagle
and roaring
then
ANYTHING
swinging
slashing
thrashing
pools
looking around
and taking time

What's next? A lot more.
