The Pina Colada song - Have you forgotten what your purpose is?

Jul 19, 2021

Me and my old lady have fallen into the same old dull routine

Remember The Pina Colada Song?

I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long

Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song

Have you forgotten why it is you went into business to start with?

Please don’t say - I wanted to unblock people’s drains for a living

Please say - I wanted to help, to make a difference, to have flexibility in my work week, a good work life balance and job satisfaction. I wanted to offer people something they couldn’t get elsewhere.

Yes, you wanted to make money, perhaps a lot, and maybe in your business you can. But if your customer’s don’t feel they can rely on you, have similar values, and feel good about their purchase, then this will reflect in your bottom line.

Have you gotten a little tired? Found yourself in the Same Routine?

It may be time to re-evaluate just what it was that prompted you to go into business in the first place.

Making a Difference - Standing Out In a Crowd.

What makes your widget better than Joe’s Widgets around the corner? Same quality, same manufacturer, maybe even the same brand. So why should they buy from you?

Don’t forget to take notice of your customers and the reason why they should buy from you.

 ●     What’s your purpose?

●     Why are you in business?

●     What do you want out of it? And

●     What do your customers want out of it?

Have a Heart -

Because The Hearts got to be in it.

‘ All The Right Moves’, we've all heard the saying. They even made a movie about it.

But is it enough to just have ‘All The Right Moves’ ?

Is it enough to just show up at work and serve your customers, without applying any real effort?

To be - Just going through the motions - so to speak.

Let me tell you a story to illustrate.

Going Through the Motions

A few years ago I took my family to the Circus.

Now, I don’t know if it was because it was a matinee session, or perhaps the crowd just weren’t being noisy enough,... but I was most unimpressed.

I was watching the trapeze act. Two women in leotards, swinging back and forward. They were making all the right moves, but their hearts just weren’t in it.

While they were swinging, they were having a conversation with each other. Not that they were yelling commands to each other. There were no jumps, no catches, no special tricks, just more swinging.

Even while they were doing their Ta Da’s, they were still talking.

The crowd weren’t feeling their effort and so hardly applauded. I was not impressed.

….

That’s what stood out to me, about my day at the circus.

Is that how you want to be remembered?

The Same Old Dull Routine

Have you found yourself in a similar situation?

Have you been suitably upset with a service agent when receiving customer service? Because they were only giving half hearted effort, instead of being engaged in your conversation.

They were just - going through the motions.

What About Your Workplace?

How have your customer service agents been acting lately?

Have they dropped the ball? Are customers who walk into your business, just seen as an interruption to daily tasks?

Maybe you are the face of The Business?!! Are you just going through the motions? Putting in the time but with no real effort?!

You do remember that - Customers are THE reason we have a job - don’t you?

It’s time to put the heart back into your day.

It’s time to get out of that same old dull routine and put a spring back into your step. To reignite that passion for the reason you first went into business.

To make a difference to other people’s lives. To be the best and what you do.

 Ask yourself -

●     What first attracted me to this industry?

●     Is the spark still there?

●     How can I reconnect with those feelings again and add meaning to what I do?

 Do You like Pina Coladas?

Why This Is Important

The right attitude is important because customers pick up on this, and lack of sales will be reflective of  your mood and lack of motivation.

The reason we are in business  affects our motives for getting out of bed each day. It will move us and shape our interactions with our customers.

Do you like Pina Coladas? Do your customers? Then you're a perfect fit.

Never forget  … The Hearts got to be in it.
