Recommended Guitar Study Books

Recommended Guitar Study Books

Oct 14, 2023

Here is my list of recommended study books for guitar which I own and use myself.

  1. The Ultimate Chord & Scale Bible by Buck Brown/Mark Dziuba

I highly recommend any guitarist to own this book. I learnt a lot of the chords that I utilize in my music from this book and it showcases multiple fingerings for the same chord which is helpful as some fingerings can be rather painful or unpleasant to play. While the Scale section of the book is useful it's not as expansive as I'd like, therefore the next book in the list is what I recommend for pure scale study.

  2. The Everything Guitar Scales Book by Marc Schonbrun

For those seeking to learn the Scales in multiple positions along the fretboard, then I highly recommend this book. The scale patterns are clearly laid out in each position on the page making it ideal for practice and to jam around in.

  3. Arpeggios by Joe Charupakorn

To complete this list I recommend this book, as it showcases arpeggio patterns in one, two, and three octave fingerings. I've personally made use of the minor scale arpeggio patterns in this book. I find it useful to jam around in these arpeggio patterns when trying to come up with ideas for riffs.
