Located just a two-hour train ride from Seoul, Daegu is easily accessible with multiple daily train options. For a more scenic, and often cheaper, journey, hop on a bus. This route allows you to soak in the beauty of the South Korean countryside, even if it takes a little longer.
Daegu's location in the southeastern region makes it an ideal central hub for exploring the eastern coast. You'll be within easy reach of cities like Busan, Pohang, and Gyeongju, making day trips a breeze.
The city has its own distinct charm. You'll notice a more relaxed pace here, where locals seem to be a little more laid-back than in other big cities. The streets themselves feel different. While Daegu has its share of high-rises, the city center feels more open, with wider spaces between buildings that offer a welcome sense of breathing room.
Thanks to its climate, Daegu is well known for producing high-quality apples. However, the city's rich history goes far beyond its famous fruit.
Numerous discoveries, including Bronze Age tombs and dolmens, were found near Daegu Station and Dalseong Park. Unfortunately, most of these historical structures disappeared as the city expanded.
Throughout Korea's history, Daegu was a city of great importance, serving as a political and geographical center during the Unified Silla, Goryeo, and Joseon periods.
However, it is not only the history that runs deep in this city. Daegu city is also known as a "foodie city" and for its spicy and savory cuisine. Some of it's famous dishes are Daegu yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), makchang gui (grilled beef intestines), and Dongin-dong jjimgalbi (spicy stewed beef ribs).
In the city center near the 83 tower you`ll find the local theme park E-World.
A theme park with unique scenery and offering divers views. For many it might not be you number one amusement park, but E-World brings its own charm with its funfair felling mixed with modern day vibes.
Another fun place to visit is Sparkland. A one of a kind funfair in their own mall. Each floor offers a different activity which is just as fun for families as well as friends or couples on a date.
Grab an amazing view over the city from the towering Ferris wheel on the roof, spin on the disco on the edges, or try a VR experience.
If you are a gamer, there are no better gaming experience than the Red Force PC room located at the 8th floor.
Finding yourself in a need of a break? Then head down to the lower floors where you can find shopping alternatives for clothes or have a breather.
Daegu is also a city with a great variety of cozy side streets with coffeeshops and brunch cafes and restaurants. The atmosphere is very different from the overcrowded streets of Seoul.
