A visitor to my parents' church told me about this platform and I filed away the catchy name in my mind for future use. My decision to get off social media by Easter 2025 was the push I needed to sign up. I wasn't quite ready to give up all connection with the outside world via the Internet and this seemed like a good option, encouraging me to keep my eyes open for things to write about and things to take photos of while avoiding the literally infinite rabbit holes of Instagram reels and the patently AI videos on Facebook.
I have had fun drafting my first posts, choosing pictures for the gallery and setting up my membership levels. Behind the firewall I am planning to publish a series of pieces and poems from letters and journals that I have called that Pilgrim. Some day I'll use that space for some longer pieces, too, and maybe a fiction project I am working on (don't hold your breath for that one!). That content is accessible to members and supporters: that means you can have access to everything from as little as the cost of one (rather posh) coffee, £4.
This is the most adjacent of side hustles but I would be delighted to make a small income from it. But I think I can honestly say that my main motivation is to create an online community of like minded people, seeking meaning, connection and transcendence, which is another way of saying the Kingdom of God.
