What follows is not joy, meaning and the Kingdom of God. It is a wee rant.
But first I will teach you a great German word.
The German for bad is schlimm.
The German for better is besser.
The German for an improvement is Verbesserung.
And the German for an improvement that actually makes things worse is a Verschlimmbesserung.
They are everywhere!
Two in Edinburgh:
The timetables for the Edinburgh Leisure swimming pools are now impossible to decipher! They used to work perfectly. Now they are so mysterious, I was driven to phone up to find out the opening times of my local pool.
And, the bus trackers. Used to work fine, a wee bit shabby maybe, but usually told you more or less when the bus would arrive. Now, they look very glitzy but all they can do is give you the timetabled times of the buses. Which is very close to not giving you information at all.
Verschlimmbesserungen, both!
