From left to right…
* Light Blue:
Tropical Storm Ophelia (formerly pTC 16/invest 99L) formed at 2pm yesterday near the Carolina’s & has dumped heavy rainfall and gusty winds along the eastern USA coast.
…TS Ophelia is expected to weaken over the weekend, and likely dissipate by Sun.
…this system poses no threat to the Caribbean.
* Blue:
The recent tropical wave -- now centered along 62°W -- which caused a few showers across the Eastern Caribbean (including the SSS Islands) is dissipating.
…a few more showers can be expected today.
…this is the last mention of this system.
* Red:
Tropical Depression #17 (formerly invest 90L) formed at 11am this morning.
…it is centered at 15.6°N 38.8°W (or about 1620mi ESE of the SSS Islands) and moving West @ 15mph.
…TD #17 is expected to further strengthen into a tropical storm (which would be named ‘Philippe’) by late Sun/early Mon.
…Projections show this system will pass well (+/- 600mi) NorthEast of the Caribbean, as a tropical storm by late next week (Wed-Fri) -- a path similar to recent ‘Hurricane Lee’.
We will continue to monitor its progress, as path & intensity can change in the coming days.
* Orange:
A new tropical wave, which has recently emerged off the coast of Africa -- centered along 17°W -- currently has no chance of developing.
...It is way too early to determine the intensity, path, or effects of this system -- if any.
