I'm building Everchat - a Chrome extension side panel that puts a public comment thread on every URL.
Open a news article. A government page. A product listing. Some random blog from 2009. Same URL, same room. You never leave the tab.
The web was supposed to be a conversation. Instead, discussion got shoved onto X, Reddit, or whatever comment box a site bothered to install - if they installed one at all. The page you're actually reading has no portable place to talk. That's the hole I'm filling.
A few things I won't compromise on:
No email. You claim a handle and lock it with a passkey. I don't want a map from your real name to what you said on a sensitive page.
No ads. If the product is paid for by watching you, the comments eventually serve the advertiser. That's not this.
No trackers. We don't build an ad profile of you across the web. We don't sell your information either, because we don't even have any.
No mods. The crowd votes. Junk collapses. You can still expand it. Speech stays in the room. There's no way to buy attention.
Free forever. A coffee doesn't buy ranking, visibility, or special treatment. That's the deal.This page exists because there are obvious costs associated with keeping any software product alive, and I'm a one-man show. If a lot of people use Everchat, those bills grow. I'd rather ask for voluntary support than sell your attention.
