Viboldone Abbey, dates back to the 12th century-Its construction began around 1176. The abbey was built as a place of worship and refuge, housing a community of Humiliati monks. ๐
Over the centuries, Viboldone Abbey played a vital role in the region, acting as a pilgrimage site for devout followers and a cultural hub for the local community. Throughout its history, Viboldone Abbey has weathered various challenges, including periods of decline and restoration. In the 18th century, the abbey experienced a decline in its monastic community, and it was subsequently suppressed in 1798 during the Napoleonic era.
Following a lengthy period of neglect, the monastery presently serves as the dwelling place for the Community of Madre Margherita Marchi (a group of Benedictine nuns) since the year 1941.
Since then, it has been meticulously restored, ensuring its preservation as a cherished heritage site.
