Mirasole Abbey, located on the border south of Milan, has a fascinating past dating back to the 13th century?
Established during the first half of the 13th century as a farm-abbey, Mirasole Abbey was founded by the Humiliated Order, a group devoted to cultivating the fields and pioneering innovative methods in woolen cloth production for their time. However, in 1582, the Humiliated Order was disbanded, leading to the Olivetani Order assuming responsibility for the abbey, while the assets were transferred to the Helvetic College.
In 1797, Napoleon bestowed the entire abbey structure to the 'Fondazione Policlinico' of Milan, and it was under their ownership that, with the support of the Association for Mirasole Abbey, established in 1981, the extensive restoration efforts were carried out.
The Mirasole Abbey complex consists of the abbey church, a spacious courtyard with a tower dating back to the 13th century at its entrance, and a beautiful cloister from the 15th century.
The church of Mirasole Abbey boasts several frescoes that depict angelic representations of the Holy Trinity as well as the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
