What a year!

What a year!

Jan 03, 2023

So after my last post complaining about how wet it was he universe said "Wet? You think this is wet?"

We are lucky enough to be on high ground so our family and the our birds were all safe, cut off for awhile, but safe.

The one good thing to come of all this was the locals community's have really come together and shown that anyone can make a difference. The amount of caring that has been shown to those who were hit hard is heart warming, mind you this has come from the amazing local community's and not the people who have the power and money to help.

The chickens and quails have been doing well and seem pretty happy, however, egg production has dropped dramatically since the flooding. The quails have bounced back in the last couple of weeks, the chickens on the other hand are just hanging around for the free feed lol. The poor chickens really didn't like the wet, then the sudden heat and now they are molting.

They are all getting a lot more fresh greens these days as I have really taken to gardening in the past year. Some of them aren't as keen on the leafy greens as the others (same with the kids lol) but I have to keep an eye on the ones that are or they will sneak into my potting areas and help themselves.

I also started adding dried chilli flakes to their regular feed as I read that this has been helpful to a lot of people with egg production. I am still not sure how well it works as I have not been adding it as regularly as I would like, I have yet to find a good source that doesn't cost too much. Anyone know of anywhere I can buy it in bulk? I have done some searching, but so far I haven't been able to find some in bulk that is any cheaper than buying it small amounts from the shops.

My New Years resolution is to be more on to this page. So far it been running 2 years and this is my 3rd post lol. I want to make this page work so me, my human family and my bird family can live a sustainable life, which we can share with our community.

Happy 2023 everyone!
