Heaven is a Silhouette (LIVE Honeytone Session) 🦋

Sep 05, 2023

This song is strongly introspective and philosophical in nature and indeed sums up my own recurring existential angst. Here I contemplate the long-fingered hands of the past and their seemingly perpetual grip on one's life. I've been told by fans at live shows that some of the key lines from this song ring true for them as well.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. 😉

The future’s locked away inside the past
The key is in the shadow that’s been cast
I’m down to my last broken dream
Keep staring at my life, what does it mean?
What does it mean?

When heaven’s just a veil drawn over hell
The higher I go, the deeper I dwell
I can feel the weight of my history
Pulling me down like gravity

I try not to mind all the chains
But they make it hard to jump this hell-bound train
And further down the line all I can see
Is another faded sign for history, what does it mean?

When heaven’s just a veil drawn over hell
The higher I go, the deeper I dwell
I can feel the weight of my history
Pulling me down like gravity

However high I seem to rise
I find the past in some disguise
What does it mean?
What does it mean?

When heaven is a silhouette, however close I seem to get
I have a dream, I see a door, it disappears just like before
'Cause heaven is a silhouette however close I seem to get
Heaven is a silhouette, however close I get

What does it mean, what does it mean?

When heaven’s just a veil drawn over hell
The higher I go the deeper I dwell
And I can feel the weight of my history
Pulling me down like gravity

However high I seem to rise...
