Anxiety Podcast Assignment

The podcast I listened to was number 790: Anxiety and Your Stomach Issues. It spoke to a subject that is near and not dear to me, Anxiety, Flight or Fight response, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I have IBS, I have suspected for years that it was a question of my Complex PTSD having an effect on my body that still affects me today. I feel like my Sympathetic Nervous system was so completely overwhelmed (too much ON time) and has never stopped.

The primary purpose of the podcast was to talk about (tell us about) different ways to elevate or mitigate this (IBS). Suggestions were given to try various methods or combinations of methods to ease and maybe even completely mitigate one's IBS. C.B.T via Mindfulness is the first suggestion. Obviously, the right place for everyone to start (regardless of their condition or situation, C.B.T. is for everyone as far as I can tell), the next suggestion was Mindfulness through Yoga to attempt to utilize a physiological response, and finally, she made chemical (biological) suggestions such as the calming root Ginger wich easy upset stomach and soothes nerves, or to take Peppermint capsules. This makes sense as peppermint leaves chewed or peppermint oil is known to ease stomach issues especially gas and bloating. She also mentions Probiotics to aid in "gut health" (which I have been meaning to experiment with. I am going to find some well-reviewed ones and purchase them by Monday and see what happens. I will gladly report my results if you are interested.)

As I mentioned in the first question, 3 methods are given to assist with IBS; Cognitive Behavioural, Physiological, and Biological. Each has its use here and any of these (or all) could be a solution.

So... Asperger's... Sometimes it is hard for me to listen to people depending on their voice. Anyone that always seems to be yelling makes me upset and I can not focus on their words, I just think about leaving. There was a video, for this class I believe, that had a woman speaking but I had to watch it 3 times before I was able to focus past her insistent yelling. I had to turn the volume down to 5 to tolerate her. It was like listening to my mother scream at me, it is always like that so I dislike loud people. "they grate on my nerves". This podcast's speaker... She has that empty wispy hollow voice that you hear a lot in northern Michigan. The type of voice that makes me want to explain diaphragm breathing and utilizing one's diaphragm to project one's voice Without having to yell. I can whisper into someone's ear at 5 feet. why do people have to scream into their phones or yell in the faces of people 3 feet from them (or closer...)?

Additionally, the whole thing seemed like a meta-thought like she read a few things and threw this podcast together. I did not only feel this way because she offered me no new suggestions or advice but because of the way it was presented. It all seemed rather second-hand, a bit like the concepts were new to her. But what do I know, maybe it was just her voice, Definitely not a voice for radio, maybe for a meditation class, especially one intended to help you sleep.
