If you’re an author hoping to become traditionally published, avoid making this mistake: Querying agents (or publishers) that are outside your genre.
Why is this a bad idea? It’s a complete waste of time and effort. Some authors are of the opinion that it does not matter who you submit your manuscript to as long as you submit it.
That’s not true. 99% of agents will delete a submission unread if it does not match with their selected genre. A few of them might pass it along to another agent within the company but if this is not explicitly stated, you should align your submissions to the requirements of the agent/publishing house.
