Today, we’re stepping into one of the most controversial works of the ancient world: The Book of Enoch.

The Book of Enoch: The Text They Tried to Erase
The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish apocalyptic work traditionally attributed to Enoch, the great‑grandfather of Noah, and it was well‑known in early Christianity and even quoted in the New Testament letter of Jude.
It dives deep into:
The fall of the Watchers, a group of angels who descended to Earth
The origin of demons and the Nephilim
The reasons behind the Great Flood
Prophetic visions of the Messiah and the End Times
These opening chapters don’t just add color to familiar Bible stories—they reframe the whole question of where evil comes from and how heaven and earth interact.
Buried in the West, Preserved in Ethiopia
For the first few centuries, many early Christian writers treated Enoch as Scripture and fragments of it show up in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Over time, Western church councils drew a tight boundary around the canon and Enoch was pushed out, largely because of its disturbing story of angels who sinned with human women and its complex hierarchy of cosmic beings.
While it vanished from the Western canon, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church kept Enoch in their Bible, where it is still considered canonical today. In the 18th century, James Bruce brought Ge’ez manuscripts of Enoch from Ethiopia to Europe, which eventually led to its first modern translations and a slow rediscovery of this “lost” book.
In other words, this text survived because one African Christian tradition refused to let it die.
Inside Chapters 1–6: The Descent of the Watchers
In my Book of Enoch (1–6) episode, we walk through the opening movement of this story:
Chapter 1 – The Blessing of Enoch
A blessing over the righteous and a vision of God’s coming judgment that will shake mountains and terrify the earth.Chapter 2 – The Order of Creation
A meditation on how all of creation obeys the divine order, preparing us for the contrast of rebellion.Chapters 3–5 – Signs and Warnings
Enoch observes the stars, seasons, and cycles of nature to show that judgment is woven into the fabric of reality for those who break covenant.Chapter 6 – The Oath of the Watchers
Here the drama explodes: a group of angels, led by Semyaza, swear a secret oath to descend, take human wives, and cross a line they can never uncross. Their choice becomes the catalyst for the Nephilim and a global corruption that demands a flood.
These chapters are the opening notes of a cosmic story that echoes through myths and legends around the world.
The Poem – “Silver Gates Ajar | Enoch 1–6”
To match the weight of this story, I wrote an original poem and set it to music, imagining the Watchers speaking in their own voice:
The silver gates stand open on the height,
Where stars hold council in the deep of night.
We saw the trembling dust of mortal clay
And cast our ancient heritage away.
Ten score of princes, bound in secret oath,
Came down to taste the vine and earthly growth.
We shed our robes of uncreated flame
And bartered splendor for a hollow name.
The daughters of the dust were fair to sight,
Their tresses braided with the fading light.
Beneath the mountain’s shadowed iron cheek
We found the sanctuary we dared to seek.
The covenant lies broken in the sand;
Forbidden seed takes root across the land.
The firmament recoils in silent dread
As waking giants stir upon their bed.
The mountains groan beneath their iron stride;
No valley’s left where any man may hide.
They strip the orchards, then devour the kine,
Then drink the blood of every sacred vine.
The earth cries out from every wounded vein
To cleanse the stain of this unnatural reign.
We taught them secrets of the tempered blade,
How bitter war and slaughter might be made;
The art of mirrors, and the painted eye,
The way to read the portents of the sky.
But wisdom torn from mercy is a blade
That wounds the hand of those by whom ’twas made.
The watchers of the throne bow down and weep
As tides of wrath rise roaring from their sleep.
The constellations shift their frozen gaze,
Preparing for the last and burning days.
The Nephilim rise up from iron wombs;
The cradle curls into a field of tombs.
Behold the weight of glory turned to stone—
The Watchers reap the ruin they have sown.
